Motorcyclist killed after running over wooden plank on PIE

SINGAPORE — A 31-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Tuesday (Aug 8) morning after he apparently slammed into the central divider and was flung into the path of an oncoming car from the opposite direction.

Eyewitnesses said that the man was travelling on the Pan-Island Expressway towards Changi Airport when he swerved right after running over an wooden plank on the road.

Mr Cheng Yong Sun, 29, a motorist who was helping to divert the traffic at the scene, said: "I was riding my bike when I saw the wooden plank on the road. (The motorcyclist) ended up quite a distance away from the wooden plank."

The police said they were alerted to the accident at 7.21am. The motorcyclist was found lying motionless and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

Police investigations are ongoing.
