SINGAPORE – A 30-year-old motorcylist was killed in an accident involving a car, a lorry and another motorcycle at the junction of Woodlands Avenue 12 and Woodlands Avenue 1 on Monday (Aug 7) evening.
The police said they were alerted to the accident at 7.34pm and the male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
From images of a video that was widely circulated online, the car, which was travelling on the other side of the road, had somehow swerved into the right lane on Woodlands Avenue 12.
It hit the 30-year-old motorcyclist, who was riding ahead of the lorry, head on. The other motorcyclist then hit the side of the car, which had overturned because of the impact of the crash.
The driver of the car, a 32-year-old male, and his 22-year-old wife were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). Their one-year-old infant, who was in the car during the accident, was taken to KK Women’s and Children’s hospital. The male car driver fractured his right arm.
The 32-year-old male car driver was subsequently arrested for causing death by a negligent act, said the Singapore Police Force on Tuesday (Aug 8).
The other male motorcyclist, who is Malaysian, was also taken to KTPH. He suffered abrasion on his limbs.
The police added that the lorry driver had no visible injuries.
Investigations are ongoing.
